Thinking of taking a longer tour on your Linssen? Alexander Jonkers will take you through the preparations for a crossing from Zeeland to London.

- Travel route and destination: Determine the exact route you want to take and choose your destination in England carefully. Consider factors such as distance, sailing conditions, and any stopovers.
- Weather and tides: Thoroughly check the weather forecast and tides. Choose a suitable time for the crossing, taking into account favourable weather conditions and currents.
- Navigation charts and equipment: Make sure you have up-to-date navigation charts for the waters you will be cruising. Check that all navigation equipment on board is working properly, including GPS, compass and VHF radio.
- Safety equipment: Check that all safety equipment on board is in good working order. This includes life jackets, life buoys, first aid kit, fire extinguisher and other necessary safety equipment.
- Fuel and range: Calculate fuel consumption carefully and make sure you have enough fuel for the entire journey, including any diversions or delays.
- Customs and formalities: Make sure you are aware of all customs and immigration formalities applicable to the crossing. Provide the necessary documentation, such as passports, sailing certificates and registration papers.
- Communication plan: Prepare a communication plan, including emergency contacts and maritime assistance services. Also inform family or friends of your travel plans and provide an estimated time of arrival.
- Maintenance check: Perform a thorough check of the engine, electronics and other systems on board. Make sure everything is working properly and that you have spare parts and tools on board.
- Accommodation facilities: If the crossing is long, make sure you have enough provisions, drinking water and sleeping facilities on board. Consider the comfort of the crew during the trip.
