In this vlog series you can follow the production of the new build of a Linssen Motor yacht. In this case a Linssen 45 SL Sedan. Production started in February 2022 and will take until end of September before this new motor yacht is finished.
All production steps shown here are used for all Linssen boats. From the small 30' to the large 50'. The principle is the same.
Linssen production part 01 - Steel hull construction phase 1
Linssen Yachts takes you on a journey through the production process of our steel motor yachts. We follow the construction of a Linssen 45 SL Sedan. From the steel construction, blasting room, preservation, spray booth, interior construction, engine room layout and finishing.
Production starts in the steel construction hall where the steel is processed. The steel sheets are cut with a laser cutting machine, after which the separate pieces of steel are welded together into a hull at the various workplaces.
The hull of a Linssen motor yacht starts with a number of flat steel plates that are cut into the shape of the hull. These are lifted with the help of cranes and welding begins in the middle. Then the frames are welded in for stability and rigidity. This Linssen 45 SL Sedan will be fitted with two engines, hence the openings for the two propeller shafts.
When this stage of construction is completed in a few days' time, the yacht will move along the special tracks in the ground to the next work platform for the second stage of hull construction.At Linssen, this is called the Logicam production method. Logi = Logistic; Cam = Computer Aided Manufacturing. This process is used by the entire shipyard in all departments.
Linssen production part 02 - Steel hull construction phase 1.1
Part 2 of the production process of a Linssen 45 SL Sedan motor yacht.
The bottom section of the steel hull is ready and is lifted into a crane so that the centre of the keel can be fully welded inside and out.
After that, the hull of this new boat is placed upside down. This is done with help of a laser beam, which ensures that the hull is 100% straight, horizontal and level.
After that, the keel - which was already pre-assembled - is exactly fitted with the help of a laser beam and welded in place. The stern tubes and brackets are fitted and then the hull is rotated back into the correct position and placed on a cradle. Then the sides of the hull will be welded on and in a few days the steel hull will move through the hall to the next work place.
At other workplaces different hull modules have been worked on in the meantime. The frame for the open cockpit, the complete roof, window panels and more have been prepared as modules to be built in later.
Linssen production part 03 - Steel hull construction phase 2
In this phase of hull building, the steel hull on the Linssen Logicam line is fully automatically moved one place to the right for the next phase.
This is where the beams are welded in, the engine bed, the foredeck, the gangways and finally the transom.
At the same time, the superstructure of this yacht is welded together on a special frame at a separate station. In this way, we work as true to size as possible. The complete superstructure is welded onto the hull in a later phase.
Linssen production part 04 Steel hull construction phase 3
On the third workstation in the steel hull production, the Linssen Floor Integrated System frame is installed. This frame among other things, ensures minimal transmission of sound and vibrations from the engines to the hull and interior of each Linssen motor yacht.
The Power Impact Construction - sand boxes - above the propellers ensure that cavitation is absorbed against the hull and is not transmitted to the interior.
The self-draining cockpit floor has been installed and the entire superstructure has been placed on the open hull using the overhead crane and will be welded on later.
